The last few seasons have seen a growing number of overseas riders contesting the UK National Series in search of ranking points, challenging courses and quality racing. Among those are a growing cohort of Irish racers and 2016 sees the Scott Eurocycles team making the trip over the Irish Sea. Round One at Pembery saw great results for the team's Juniors with a podium for Klaudia Bajolek and top ten for David Conroy. Gareth Hegarty also made a impact, mixing it with the Elite top ten on Lap one before fading to finish in a still solid 35th place. These three plus Junior John Quinn who retired at Round One with stomach problems are in action at Newnham Park, Plymouth for the second round.
The team was formed in 2014 with two riders David Conroy and Sean Feeney, with the support of Donnybrook Landscape Co and Scott Eurocycles. Both companies share owners who are passionate about cycling. Donnybrook Landscape owner Paddy Daly has been racing and riding for 25 years and Scott Eurocycles boss Mr. Mel Sutcliff is a former semi-professional cyclist who has been involved in cycling since the 80’s.
To date Conroy and Feeney have notched up some impressive results in cross country and cyclo-cross against some of Ireland’s best and most experienced racers. Following on from the success in their début year, the team expanded in 2015 bringing on board Gareth Hegarty and Marlena Dro?dziok, with Hegarty notching up significant results in the 2015/16 cyclocross season and Dro?dziok going on to win her cross country National Championship.
For 2016 the team has expanded to support to 5 young riders , with John Quinn and Klaudia Bajolek joining the team racing in the junior categories.
A cornerstone of the success of the team has been the support of key sponsors Scott, Eurocycles, Northgate Vehicle Hire and Donnybrook Landscape Co – thus enabling a fantastic opportunity for 5 promising riders to compete at the highest level. This support has allowed the team to expand its programme in 2016 to include all rounds of the Irish and UK NPS Series as well as targeting select World Cups plus also Mtb and Cyclocross World Championships.
“With the high level of support from our very enthusiastic sponsors the 2016 season presents a massive opportunity for the riders to develop their excellent talents even further . I am very excited to lead and support these great riders towards big results in the future ” Paddy Daly commented .
